Steve Ward and Associates was recently selected to participate in a project for Golisano Children’s Hospital. Golisano is a wonderful hospital serving a large area of southwest Florida and specializing in acute pediatric care. SWA was selected for this project with a focus on technology, state-of-the-art equipment and patient privacy. Golisano was focused on providing a family and kid-friendly space that was not only functional, but welcoming.

The project had been in the works since 2001 and finally in May 2017, they opened their doors to their new addition; a 300,000 square foot seven story tower that will provide care to numerous patients, children of all ages, at a time. Inside the tower includes 128 private patient rooms with the option to be expanded to 160 beds. Also included are 64 private neonatal intensive care units.

In addition to the new construction, 76,000 square feet of renovation was completed in the existing Healthpark Medical Center. The total cost for this project was approximately $250 million.

SWA was honored to be an integral part of this project providing a great deal of quality, functional and beautiful furniture and accessories per Golisano’s specifications in a timely fashion.

Furniture Provided:

Laminate Casework
A project staple, durable, laminate casework was provided throughout the entire tower and Medical Center. This includes patient rooms, visitor areas and common spaces shared by medical professionals. Not only does the casework provide longevity, they are easily maintained and cleaned making them the perfect piece for a hospital. In addition, a beautifully textured wood grain laminate was used to create a warm, welcoming and peaceful environment for patients and employees alike.

Nurse Stations and Reception Desks
These are a great examples of custom millwork SWA is able to provide and fabricate in-house. Included in the nurse stations and reception desks were 3Form Resin panel graphic art accent pieces providing a beautiful aesthetic to these focal points on each floor. In addition, stainless steel footrests were added where applicable for employee comfort. Doctors and nurses spend a great deal of time on their feet so adding options to provide improved comfort wherever possible is a must.

Each nurse station was designed with a unique, bright color. Each floor had its own color sequence and the stations used the color on the countertops and ledges to create a fun and exciting look and experience for the children.

Solid Surface Countertops
The solid surfaces provide a beautiful stone appearance but are non-porous disabling germs and liquids to seep in. Patient safety and germ containment while still providing a desirable aesthetic were of utmost important at Golisano. In addition, sinks where integrated where applicable.

Solid Surface Panels
In additional to solid surface countertops, solid surface panels were installed clad to the wall, some including a thermoformed radius for a softer look. Signage and other graphics were conveniently hung from the panels.

Solid Surface Reading Nooks
Designed as a comfortable, recessed space for children to utilize. Similar material to the countertops and panels were used to create a beautiful and safe space.

Chapel Kneeler
Did you know SWA can provide these for your project? We strive to make a project as seamless as possible for our customers and offering items such as chapel kneelers allows our clients to reduce the amount of vendors required.

Gift Shop Glass Shelves
The shelves were a perfect addition to display product. This is a great example of accessories SWA can provide when managing a project. Success is truly in the details, even in the form of shelves!
